Live broadcast: Benjamin Lebert reads from his latest novel

The Twinity community can look forward to experiencing another real Berlinian event: On this issue of zitty Reader’s Lounge, 27 year old author Benjamin Lebert (“Crazy”) reads from his latest novel “Flug der Pelikane” (‘Flight of the Pelicans’).

The zitty Readers Lounge in the Berlin-based kantine@berghain is broadcast live to the zitty editorial office at Hackescher Markt, which means that all Twinizens can take an active part in the live literary debate.

Where: zitty Redaktion
Date: Thursday, 26 February 2009
Time: 20:00 Berlin // 2pm NYC // 03:00 Singapore

English-speaking Twinizens please note: this is a German-language event, but you’re still welcome to come along and enjoy the music by Motor FM and meet up with Twinity members from all around the world!

[Operations] New patch – February 26

Dear Twinizens,
We just wanted to let you know that we’ve just deployed a new patch minutes ago.  When you restart Twinity, the patch to the client will automatically run and update your client. This patch focused on bug fixing and resolves the recent issues concerning the inability to remove flatmates as well as some display issues on certain laptops.
Thanks,
Craig

News from the development department

Twinity is still in beta and we thus still need to improve many things. We got comments from members who want to learn more about what is going on behind the scenes. That’s why we are happy to introduce a new section in our newsletter with updates about the Twinity development progress.

I will post the same text here on the blog, to give you an opportunity to comment on the development news.

You might have noticed recently an increase in the number of patches. This comes from our new strategy to release bug-fixes and features as frequently as possible. To keep the disturbance to the community to a minimum, we try our best to update Twinity only within two fixed release windows per week: Tuesday and Thursday between 11 and 12am CET.

Last week the patches included fixes for a crash on Athon processors, fix for a freeze during teleport and faster city loading. Also, Twinity remembers your last position in the city now. The next patch will fix an error with flat-mates, should fix a bad freeze during chatting, and will improve the performance on machines with small video memory.

Also you might have noticed a couple of short server outages last week. We updated our MMO server two weeks ago and had some nasty issues with outdated configuration files. Since mid-last week no further server-crashes occurred, so we think we have caught the problem.

For the next weeks our main focus will be stability. We fight hard to reduce crashes, freezes and server drops. This requires some low-level changes on the thread-synchronization layer and our resource management. These improvements take time and some cool features (such as vehicles) unfortunately have to be put on hold, until we are happy with the stability.

Other things we are working on are better media playback, more reliable voice-chat, better performance with long friend lists, and a more beautiful female avatar. More about this in the next newsletter.

Chair in the Sky on Twinity

I love the name of this blog, and I like the new comments there about Twinity:

So any way Twinity continues to improve. this is my current av evolution, she is almost ok. The movement of av’s is still awkward and she seems stoned all the time as she has this way of constantly gazing into the netherland.

I am in my apartment here and I do like it. You are also now able to send postcards from in world, though I have not done that yet………….oh and my gallery has been featured a few times. I must go in world and change the exhibit though.

Taking your Twinity feedback seriously

Lately, we’ve been getting a lot of feedback about Twinity, not all of it positive, but we’re listening. I wanted to take a few moments to share some of the feedback, and what we’re doing to try to continue to make Twinity better for you. Read More
