Spooktacular Twinity Halloween Contests

The leaves have changed color and the frost is on the pumpkins, which means it’s almost time for Halloween.  As a special treat, we’re rolling out 2 contests for Halloween:   Spookiest room design and spookiest costume.  In addition, so there is no unfair advantage to those with special content creation skills, each contest will have 2 categories – one for any items and one for only purchased items.

  • All entries must be received before midnight October 28
  • No nudity or sexual content is allowed
  • 1st place wins 250 globals, 2nd place wins 100 globals and 3rd place wins 50 globals
  • Entries for purchased item categories must include details on where the items used can be purchased, and the items must be available to purchase now.  Failure to include information on where the items were purchased will cause your entry to go into the “any items” category.

Spookiest Room Design is 1 room’s design – there is no size limit to the room you can design, but choose your room carefully!  If it’s too large your entire effort may not all be seen by the judges, but if it’s too small you might not have enough room to pack a spooky enough punch.

To enter this contest, just send a feedback or email to support[at]twinity.com stating that you want to enter the contest, the exact name of the place, and which category you are entering.  Remember, if you’re entering the purchased items category you must also include details on where the items used were purchased.

Spookiest Costume Design is an outfit worn by your avatar in a setting that shows it to full advantage.  For example, if you create a corpse costume a great setting to use would be the gravestones shown below.

To enter this contest just put your outfit on and send a spooky postcard image showing it off to support[at]twinity.com.  State that it is an entry for the Halloween Contest and which category you are entering.  Remember, if you’re entering the purchased items category you must also include details on where the items used were purchased.   To ensure that the images are not edited in any way, only postcard images will be accepted for this contest.

As noted above, all entries must be received no later than midnight October 28.  Judging will be done by Twinity and ExitReality staffmembers and the winners will be announced on November 1.   We have also added some great new Halloween themed items  for decorating your room or to set the scene for your spooky costume, you can find them in the 2d shop or currently displayed at Dungeon of Goths.  You’ve got 2 weeks, and we can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

ExitReality’s Acquisition of Twinity

As you are aware, ExitReality has recently acquired Twinity. We are equally aware that Twinizens have many questions about this. Here is a summary of the questions we have received so far, and ExitReality’s answers to them.

Q: Where can I find out more about the acquisition?

A: You can read more here

Q: Who are ExitReality?

A: They are a company that is dedicated to 3D on the web. Read more here

Q: Will Twinity close?

A: No

Q: What are ExitReality’s plans for Twinity?

A: We want to help Twinity grow and become part of a great suite of ExitReality virtual/3D offerings.

Q: Things have been stagnant for several months now, will this change?

A: Yes. As part of ExitReality, Twinity will have access to more resources for things like customer support, server support and server maintenance.

Q: Will anything change about VIP memberships.

A: Changes are likely eventually, but none are planned for the immediate future. Future changes are likely because with any premium offering, we constantly look for ways to make it more attractive for people to purchase. This means that you should not see negative changes when they eventually come.

Q: Will the cities be reactivated, if so when?

A: Unknown

Q: If the cities come back, will city real estate be rentable or only available for purchase?

A: Unknown

Q: Will google city maps be returning

A: Unknown

Q: Will Age Verification be added so we do not have to have an Access Passes for adult content?

A: This is actually separate questions:

  • Age Verification: Unknown
  • Access Passes: These will stay as a separate 1-time purchase option. This must remain a separate option to ensure that no one is exposed to such content unknowingly or unwillingly.

Q: Will Twinity continue to be an adult only world?

A: Yes – younger users are encouraged to try ExitReality’s music virtual world called vSide.  Learn more about it here.

Q: Will someone be continuing to monitor social media?

A: Yes, and you will see a great deal more activity on social media from us.

Q: Will anyone from the Metaversum team become part of the ExitReality team?

A: Various resources are being evaluated to see where they will perform best. Twinity’s lead community manager Carolyn will continue in her current role for ExitReality. Key people that will not be joining the ExitReality team, such as the Metaversum CEO will still assist with transition efforts and knowledge transfer as long as needed.

Q: Will the community team be expanded?

A: Our community manager has fully deployed the new moderator and mentor groups, this should address many issues. Additional staff are already assisting in community management. We will continually review the structure and modify it as needed to ensure quality experiences and responsiveness for our members.

Q: Will there be new servers?

A: Yes, everything will be moved from Metaversum to ExitReality servers.

Q: When things go wrong will we be made aware of what is going on?

A: Yes

Q: Will our website be changed to provide faster access to information about server status or problems?

A: Yes

Q: Does ExitReality have set downtimes for updates / maintenance?

A: Yes, notifications will be made regarding planned downtimes. However through the transition if anything does fall over we will make our best efforts to respond promptly.

Q: Where are the servers moving to?

A: San Francisco, California, USA

Q: Will there be a re-grand opening / launch?

A: Unknown

Q: When will we come out of Beta?

A: Unknown

Q: Will there be a global buyback system to encourage our content creators?

A: Unknown

Q: Will any ExitReality staff meet with us inworld periodically?

A: Unknown

Q: When will we see new client updates?

A: We do not have projected dates yet as this is dependent on how well the server and programming transitions go. We don’t want to give dates at this point and raise expectations that unforeseen migration issues would prevent us from meeting.

Q: Does ExitReality use voice chat? If so, will it return to Twinity?

Q: Will the casino be brought back?

Q: Will other games such as slot machines and card games be added?

Q: Will we be able to right click on a person to automatically submit their specific account ID when reporting them like you can do in vSide?

Q: Will we get the ability to clear all Twinity mail messages with one button click?

A: Specific code updates are not determined yet. This will be reviewed when we are further into the transition process.

Staff members at both Twinity and ExitReality are excited about Twinity’s potential and are really looking forward to seeing the community and the technology continue to grow.

See you in-world!

Twinity Behavior: Public vs Private Places

We are often asked why, since Twinity is an application for adults only, people cannot behave any way they want any place they want. This is intended to answer that question, and remind everyone about the differences that exist.

We are a global community made up of members from many different countries, ages, religions and ethnic groups. What is perfectly normal to someone else might be highly offensive to you, or vice versa. As a global community, we strive to provide an environment that everyone can enjoy. We accomplish this with the concept of real estate.

This Place Information screen shows how public Twinity run places appear inworld

There are 2 types of places in Twinity – public Twinity run locations, and private Twinizen real estate. You can tell which type a place is by looking at the place information screen. Public locations can be recognized by being owned by Real Estate Agent and having no tenant, and private locations are owned or rented by individual Twinizens.

This shows a private location that is rented by a Twinizen

In most cases, Twinizen property holders decide what is and is not acceptable to them in their places and are able to enforce those decisions using the kick, lock and block functions. The most notable exception to this is the flagging/locking requirements for places with adult content, but in general we try to give Twinizens the freedom to run their places as they see fit as much as possible.

This example shows how private places owned by Twinizens can be recognized

Twinity run public places need to be kept free of objectionable behavior as much as possible to allow for the differences between us and offer places where everyone can feel comfortable. To give you a better idea of the kinds of things the community objects to, we have compiled a list of behavior that is most often reported by our members: Swearing, insults/name calling, occupying space another avatar is already in, hate speech, sexually related comments/actions, confrontations/arguments in the public chat, and behavior specifically intended to be disruptive or offensive. The community has made it clear that they do not like these things, so they need to be avoided in public areas.

Having both types of places available for people to enjoy allows everyone to visit the places that suit their needs at any given time, which results in more enjoyment for everyone regardless of their background and personal behavior standards.

Twinity Shop of the Week Events

Shop Manager has been hosting a special series of weekly events since last July, and she’s almost been through all the Twinity-run shops.  Not to worry though, she’s been saving some of the best places for last, so if you’re only finding out about these events now you’re still in time to get in on some amazing deals!

Don't miss the amazing sale offers!

Each week she hosts the Shop of the Week event, where a different Twinity Shop is featured.  Each featured shop has at least one item on sale for only 5 globals (and don’t forget, you can use promo globals for Twinity sold items) – but only during the 1 week that the shop is featured!  If this is your first week of attending you are in for a special treat because she’s put several items on sale.  All you have to do is visit the shop and find them!

Behind The Scenes

Dear Twinizens,

I heard that some of you are nervous about the future of Twinity because of a number of different rumors. So I thought it might be helpful to explain a bit what has been going on in the last year.

Indeed our main investors did leave Metaversum (the company behind Twinity) end of 2010. I was CTO at that time and aquired the majority of shares in a so called management buyout from our ex-investors and became CEO of Metaversum.

My main goal in the last year was to put Twinity on stable financial grounds to make it possible to run it without loosing money. To achieve this I reduced our costs to a minimum and also did some steps to increase our revenues (e.g. the new VIP pass and adult pass).

I am happy to tell you that these measures allowed me to run Metaversum without losses in 2011. Also Twinity is now break-even. This means that the revenues we make allow us to cover all running costs.

To show city exteriors in Twinity we had to pay high license fees to our map data provider in the past. As my main goal was to make Twinity pay for its running costs, I decided to stop paying these license fees from the beginning of 2012. As a result we are not able to show the city exteriors any more at this time. It was a difficult decision, but now Twinity is free of costly ongoing licenses.

We can bring back the cities in the future if we re-license the map data or if we move our city-generation-technology to free data sources like open street map.

I hope this information helps to understand a bit better what was going on behind the scenes recently. If you have more questions, you can always talk to me or Carolyn in world or contact us via mail and feedback.

Best wishes

Christian

Twinity New Update, just in time!

Dear Twinizens,

It took the team a bit of time to have the new Twinity Update ready, but we really wanted to deliver it as a very special Christmas present to all you and it is finally here! Apart from releasing the Activity System, we are also fixing some bugs you had reported to us.

New Toolbar Buttons

To start, we changed the buttons of the Toolbar Menu and added a new Tasks button where you can find many different activities to complete, earn points,  level up and unlock features. We adapted the existing Welcome Tour to improve the new user experience and we will be rolling out different activities in upcoming updates for the Twinizens who already mastered the basics.

New Tasks and Levels

When you start Twinity after the update, each of you will have a different level in game. It depends on many factors, that you can find out more about clicking on the star in the upper left corner, next to the Twinity logo. Each level activates a certain feature in Twinity: this way new users have not so many options at start so they can focus on learning the main parts.

Level up and discover more activities

So you get the idea, once you reach the 2nd level, you get the Starter Apartment. After you get into the 3rd level, the Moods buttons are added to the Animations window and you can then change the way you walk. With level 4 the ability to fly gets unlocked and reaching level 5 allows you to upload objects from your computer. Once you are on level 6, you can open a shop in Twinity, in level 7 is time to create your Photofit of your avatar’s face. For now, you can go up to level 10 and it will be your mission to discover what is waiting for you on Level 8, 9 and 10 😀

Santa Visited Twinity Early!

‘Tis the season and Santa did a warmup run for his big night by taking a trip around the world in Twinity, leaving behind lots of free gifts for all the nice Twinizens!  Starting with Christmas Island, he left 3 different gifts for males and females and if that wasn’t enough, he also left a snazzy seasonal furniture item!

Present search

Look for these items in each city to get your special limited edition Christmas gift items!

Keep your eyes open for these items – there is one of each tucked away near the landing point in Berlin Center, London, Miami, Palmadora Island, Singapore and New York City and each one has another free gift for you!  The snowmen have male items and the trees have female items.  How many can you find on your own without help?

Get out there and start your gift searches, all items are limited editions and they won’t be around very long!
