This week we thought we’d try a different type of post or subject. Falling in love online!

For some that are not so used to the term, this might sound a bit “out there”. But for most virtual worlds explorers this will make perfect sense. Since virtual is by definition just that, virtual it suggests that it can not be real. If we talk about virtual love, does that mean it is not real?  But we are part of a virtual world and we know… virtual love, refers to love that can be real it just develops in a virtual world.

We already have so many examples of Twinizens finding love in Twinity, being part of online relationships and sharing life in every way available in a virtual world.

Behind the virtual world character, there is a real person. A common phrase for that is, real people with real feelings interacting with each other and forming friendships . If the people are real and the feelings are real, can you actually find real love in a virtual love?

Online dating is these days more and more accepted and we spend more time online either in 2D chat or 3D avatar and virtual worlds or games. All these helping us not only to keep in touch with family and friends but allow us to explore new places, meet new people in 3D whether it is for online dating or creating new friendships online.

If sometimes real-world face to face communication can be a bit stressful or demanding, online communication is low-key, more relaxed not to mention the multitude of options you have in spending time or going on adventures together in 3D. Whether you virtually travel through time in VR or you role-play or simply share life as it is day to day with the good and the bad.

At the end of the day, just as in-real world, that person can be there. This of course isn’t to say that one should not be careful with whom they meet online however it is clear that love can flourish in an online dating environment… if the stars align 😉 .

Is virtual love real? The relationships most certainly are – they exist between real people with real feelings, empathy, humor… Not all virtual love will last though.. but then again, not all love in the physical world lasts either.
